What can I expect to pay for my wedding day?
I’m creative, I can make a lot of things, I’m planning on making the cake myself, preparing some of the food along with some catered, I can take care of dress alterations, make invites and guest favors. The wedding is going to take place in a church with reception to follow in a community hall. 200 guests for both ceremony and reception.
Anyone want to take a stab at what I should expect to pay, and where I should set my budget? What kind of unexpected costs may arise?

I’m about where you are with all of this- we have a friend making our cake- we’ll have to pay for ingredients… I would actually like to try to do the flowers myself- I too am creative. My cousin and I are going to do the invites/thank-yous ourselves. I don’t want decorations to get out of control and expensive, so it will be simple- floating candles, some rose petals, and candy in vases with bags for each guest to take candy home. My dad knows a dj that will do it for almost free. And so on…..
I plan to not spend anymore than $5,000. really it depends on you and your budget. Just remember not to take on too much for the actual day of your wedding because you want to be able to get ready. But it really sounds like you are on the right track. I live in an expensive city and am finding ways to save $$, so I think anything is possible. I’d rather spend a ton of money for our son’s college fund than blow it all on our wedding.
Catering is the biggest fee- but we are trying to get someone we know to help save money- we also have 200 guests. We have a big wedding party, so getting gifts for them all will cost a bit too. You can go to www.theknot.com- they have a budget calculator where you can type in your budget, and it really helps… you don’t have to spend as much as they have in all the areas, but it gives you an idea… that site also has a planner of things you need to do each month- I love this site- so many great ideas! And it will help you with anything else you need!
